The Modernist is designed for travelers looking for a unique experience in the Algarve with a modern architecture taste. Located in the heart of the city of Faro, the 6-apartments feature a private terrace, a shared vegetal patio and a rooftop with stunning panoramic views of Ria Formosa Natural park.
The accomodation is inspired by the modern architecture movement from 1950 to 1980 lead by Le Corbusier, Franck Lloyd Wright, and Oscar Niemeyer to mention a few. The building was ordered in 1974 to architect Joel Santana, known for his modern churches in Lisbon. Originally used as Faro’s maritime customs offices, The Modernist building is mid-century architecture par excellence. It has been recently redesigned and renovated by award-winning Portuguese architect’s studio PAr in full respect of its DNA.
The original minimal design of the building has been respected. From the concrete facade, the dark red geometric tiles to the wood staircase and the marble details. Minimalism was also a guideline for the furniture and equipment design: Doors, handle, 1974’s replication wood windows, pink Algarve stone used as the main outdoor flooring, and minimalist furniture. The Modernist is an Architecture experience for travelers passionate about this topic.
