Cycling & Walking Website
Blessed with fabulous weather, an amazing coastline, and a rich and varied landscape, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Monchique Mountains, the region makes the most of its natural assets.
Expert or novice, champion or first-timer, think of a sport, leisure pastime or nature-based activity and you'll be able to enjoy it to the full in the Algarve, whatever the location, whatever the season. There's always something to do, and something for everybody.
Horse lovers can saddle up at riding centres and stables throughout the region, with rides to suit all standards, individually or in small groups. How about a brisk ride in the hills, a gallop across the wide, open countryside or a gentle canter along a deserted beach? There are also lead rein sessions for toddlers and small children, beginners' rides and pony trekking. And if you're getting a little too stiff for horse riding but still want the thrill, or if you're nervous of riding but like the idea of horses, then carriage driving could be for you.
The forests, hills and mountains meanwhile offer jeep safaris, hiking, paintballing, quad biking and rock climbing, among many other pursuits.
The nature reserves and national parks offer protected habitats and unspoiled, peaceful environments for ramblers and walkers, bird watchers and botanists, painters and photographers.
