Following the announcement of this year’s edition of the Birdwatching & Nature Activities Festival in Sagres, Algarve, the organisers now announce the festival programme, available online as of today, 1 August. Registration opens on 1 September, so you have a month to decide which activities you wish to take part in.
From 1 to 5 October, visitors of all ages from around the world are invited to enjoy the largest bird- and nature-themed event in the country, through a range of activities which promise to delight young and old alike.
New offerings in this 13th edition include cycling along the scenic ‘Rota Vicentina’, night-time walks (to see bats, insects and scorpions), as well as a variety of talks and workshops: about birds (from Mexico and the Netherlands), marine bioacoustics (listening under water), analysing owl pellets, and even the importance of whales in regulating our climate.
For children, the programme features challenges such as treasure hunts (‘In search of the lost mammal’) and art and environmental education workshops (such as ‘Painting birds on cloth’).
Successful activities from previous editions of the festival will also be returning: bird ringing sessions, beginners birdwatching courses, themed walks (archaeology, culture, geology, plants and insects) and boat trips. Registered participants will also be able to witness the moment a bird is returned to nature, build nest-boxes, bug hotels and bird feeders, help to clean Mareta beach and hear about birds and wine.
Activities will take place all around Sagres peninsula, making this the ideal opportunity to discover and explore the South West Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.
