01. BIKINGMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DEPARTED MONDAY 21 FROM FARO

66 participants, 950 kilometres, 12.000 meters of elevation gain, 1 stage!

While professional riders from Tour de France have just arrived in Paris, amateur athletes of BikingMan Portugal #2 are about to ride their bicycles across the Algarve and Alentejo regions.

The racecourse will feature for the second time the Algarve, the Alentejo region along the Spanish border, the Atlantic coast to reach the most extreme Western point of Europe and finally the Monchique mountain range. All participants will follow a mandatory course with two checkpoints to be reached in a limited time: Checkpoint 1, Pousada de Vila Viçosa (Alentejo), KM 333 and Checkpoint 2, Pousada de Sagres (Algarve), KM 689.

03. ALGARVE WILL HOST ELECTRIC DAISY FESTIVAL IN JUNE 2021

In June, 18-20, next year, Praia da Rocha, in Portimão will welcome the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), the European edition of the largest electronic music festival of North America, also considered one of the largest in the world. This is EDC's second European foray, after a first adventure in 2014, at the time in Milton Keynes, England.

 “I am very happy to bring EDC back to Europe and present Insomniac's first show in Portugal. I grew up as a surfer in California and the beaches in Portugal have always been a dream destination for me ”, says Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac, EDC's founding company, in a press release.”

Tickets for this Portuguese version of Electric Daisy Carnival, will be on sale soon.

04. MOTO GP BIKES ON TRACK FOR TESTS IN OCTOBER

Portimão MotoGP circuit will host a two-day test next on the track 7 – 8 October, for teams and athletes before the final race of the championship.

06. ALGARVE CLEAN & SAFE - BEST PRATICES GUIDE FOR TOURISM COMPANIES

The Algarve was a pioneer when published the ‘Best Practices Guide’ as part of the national ‘Clean & Safe’ campaign with hygiene protocols and procedures to protect visitors, staff and locals from Covid-19.

This Good Practices guide, made in collaboration with several national entities, includes a set of recommendations "with specific tips by industry" - accommodation, restaurants, marinas, beach concessions, golf, water parks, touristic activity businesses, golfs, campsites and motorhomes, rent-a-car, travel agencies and events - in accordance with the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and international guidelines.

08. NO QUARANTINE UPON ARRIVAL

No quarantine will be imposed for travellers arriving in Faro: Portugal’s foreign minister Augusto Santos Silva stressed that “to tourists who come by air, Portugal will not impose a quarantine”, instead focusing on “minimal health controls” to keep travellers and locals safe - those arriving in the Algarve are welcome in the country right now.


09. COVID TEST - Passengers traveling to Portugal/Algarve

COVID TEST IS NOT NEEDED IF YOU ARE TRAVELING FROM:

Countries that are part of the European Union, associated with the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) and the United Kingdom.

Countries whose epidemiological situation is in accordance with the recommendations regarding air connections with Portugal, namely Canada.

MANDATORY COVID TEST, WITH A NEGATIVE RESULT, IN ORDER TO BOARD IS NEEDED FOR: 

 

All passengers (including Portuguese citizens and residents of Portugal) on flights from countries that are not part of the European Union, or that are not countries associated with the Schengen Area or from the United Kingdom or Canada, must present proof of RT-PCR testing for COVID-19, with a negative result, performed within 72 hours prior to the time of departure, or they will be denied boarding.

For example the United Stated of America and Brazil. 

 

NOTE: The test must be a molecular RT-PCR test and rapid tests are not acceptable.

 

EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE OF MANDATORY PRESENTATION OF NEGATIVE TEST RESULTS BEFORE BOARDING:

Passengers transferring in Portugal with a connecting flight outside of national territory are exempt from presenting the test as long as the connecting flight takes place on the same calendar day and they do not leave the boarding area within the airport;

Passengers of Portuguese nationality and passengers with legal residence in Portugal, on flights originating in African Portuguese speaking countries or any origin in a third country on repatriation or humanitarian flight:

Will be allowed to board without proof of testing, however they will be tested upon arrival at the Portuguese airport, at their own expense, and must wait for the results at their residence (for reference, the test costs 100 €).

 Examples:

Portuguese national / resident in Portugal traveling from New York to Lisbon-Faro: Must present test to board

Foreign national traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon-Faro: Must present test to board

Foreign national traveling Sao Paulo – Lisbon – Madrid: No test required


10. Reliable, transparent and regular information about the Algarve
  • The region has 391 active cases (for a total of 1392 since March 8th)
  • 0,08% is the percentage of active cases per 100.000 inhabitants
  • 36,0 is week on week rate of new cases by 100.000 inhabitants in Algarve (Week 36)
  • 982 have recovered
  • Total of 19 deaths associated to covid-19 since the beginning of the outbreak
  • More than 16,5% of the Algarve’s population has been already tested to coronavirus (total pop. 438.406).
  • Portugal has performed 2.415.426tests up to now, around 24% of the total Portuguese population,  corresponding to 237.042 tests/1M inhabitants, ahead of countries like Italy (173k/1M) Germany (173K/1M), France(153K/1M) Croatia (65k/1M), Turkey (110K/1M) and Greece (116k/1M)
  • The region has an area of 5.000 square kilometres/1.930 square miles and about 200km/125mi of coastline, which facilitates physical distancing
